How did you decide upon a career in cybersecurity?
I decided to focus in cybersecurity when I realized that due to the rapid development of new technologies (e.g. social networks, cloud) and the proliferation of mobile devices, it will be more and more challenging to efficiently protect personal data and other sensitive information.
Why did you get your CCSP®?
I decided to take the CCSP exam to challenge myself against a set of worldwide recognized best practices and the Common Body of Knowledge (CBK) related to cloud security. It was also an independent way to prove the level of expertise I gained after several years of experience in the cloud security area.
What is a typical day like for you?
My main role is to help my company to ensure that appropriate security controls are in place to protect our sensitive information within the company and in the cloud. This is done by being a Cloud Security SME for several domains, Security Lead for IT projects review, active member of the Risk Management process and lead of the Cloud Security services.
Can you tell us about a personal career highlight?
In 2016, in the role of Cloud Security SPOC (Single Point of Contact) within our IT organization, I successfully developed new security review processes to address private, hybrid and public IaaS/PaaS cloud use cases, in addition to the existing process dedicated for public SaaS cloud use cases.
I’m currently leading the activities related to the definition of our corporate cloud security baseline, as well as the development of the cloud security guidelines for the main cloud platform such as MS Azure and Amazon Web Services.
In addition to my daily work, I also teach (since Dec. 2016) cloud computing and cloud security courses to Master’s degree students (40 hours or 5 days per year), during my free time.
How has the CCSP certification helped you in your career?
The CCSP certification helped me to feel more confident, to be recognized by others as a Cloud Security Expert and to be motivated to take more responsibility related to cloud security topics within my company.
What is the most useful advice you have for other cloud security professionals?
I will recommend anyone interested in cloud security to stay connected as cloud technologies are evolving rapidly. The awareness can be done by regularly attending online webinars, cloud security conferences, summits organized by main cloud vendors, to keep in touch with the best practices developed by organizations such as Cloud Security Alliance, Center for Internet Security, etc. and obviously by passing cloud security certifications such as CCSP or CCSK.
